Johana is a town steeped in history, which developed as the temple town of Johana Betsuin Zentokuji Temple. Once flourishing as a center for silk production, the vibrant culture was influenced by the Kaga Domain and has been passed down through the generations. During the Mingei folk craft movement, figures like Yanagi Soetsu and Munakata Shiko visited and left their mark on the town. A 20-minute drive will also take you to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ainokura in Gokayama.
Here, we introduce the town's highlights, dining spots, and local confectioneries.
